Stage 2

Starting with the vase, block in colours thinned with spirits or liquin.

1) The Vase Whites: Titanium White & Ultramarine Blue

2) The Vase Blues: Titanium White & Winsor Blue

3) Plums: Ultramarine Blue & Permanent Rose

4) Tablecloth: Winsor Blue & Titanium White, less white for shadows

5) Tablecloth on Right: Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber & Titanium White

6) Background: Titanium White & Yellow Ochre.  For reds, use Cadmium Red.

Apply the paint loosely and leave some of the base wash coming through.  It allows for more options later on.  Apply the positive spaces of the vase and plums first and the background next.
